A school board is a governing body that adopts policies to guide the vision and goals of a district. The board should work with the superintendent to ensure that they have a shared vision and goals. They oversee and approve budgets, hire and evaluate the superintendent and treasurer, and make decisions about curriculum, facilities, and resources. They negotiate and approve union contracts. They listen to families, staff, and the community, and use that input to guide decisions. A school board monitors progress on expected results. A school board guides that “what” and the superintendent guides the “how.”

School boards do not manage the daily operations of a school district. They don’t evaluate any staff other than the superintendent and the treasurer.

Some of my goals are to improve student achievement, support staff, and keep our school environment and facilities safe and welcoming for everyone. I’ll work toward these by working as a team with the rest of the board members in adopting and reviewing policies, approving budgets that prioritize classrooms, and making sure the superintendent is supported and held accountable.
I would also like to increase our family engagement. I’ll listen to families and advocate for the resources our students need to succeed. I strive for self improvement and learning to be an effective board member.
